 WVI ENDOVASCULAR TRAINEE COMPETITION



The Western Vascular Institute Ltd announces the 1st annual competition to recognize the work of peripheral vascular trainees. This global, multidisciplinary competition is open to all registrars, fellows, residents, and students in:


Vascular Surgery - Cardiac Surgery - Interventional Cardiology - Interventional Radiology
 
The 6th Annual WVI Symposium will be held May 29th-31st, 2008, at The Clayton in Galway, Ireland. The wvisymposium updates interventionists on new and existing endovascular technologies and creates an environment conducive to groundbreaking endovascular therapies and collaboration among endovascular specialists.

 

RULES FOR SUBMISSION


 This worldwide competition is open to clinical and research fellows, registrars, residents, and students in vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, and interventional radiology.

Each trainee may submit only one abstract. The work must be related to a vascular or endovascular topic, with emphasis on innovative research performed by the Fellow during his/her training period. 


 Each trainee must agree to the rules of the competition, including the publication of any award-winning manuscript in the Vascular.

 
The training program director must submit a letter indicating the category in which the trainee is competing and certifying the:

• Training status of the trainee in a clinical or research training program in peripheral vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, or interventional radiology

• Abstract was written by and reflects original work completed by the trainee during his/her clinical or research training period

• Trainee’s role in this original work

• Work has not been published or presented nor has it been submitted for publication or presentation.

• Current training dates of trainee in their program.

Abstracts must be a concise, substantive abbreviation of the material to be presented, including purpose, methods, results, and significance of findings. Abstracts should be one page, typed double spaced (250 word maximum), and with the name of the trainee listed as first author. Include the institution, city, and country of the training program. At the bottom of the page, give the name, address, telephone/fax numbers, and email address of the corresponding author.

The committee will review abstracts received by the deadline of January 31, 2008.

 

FINALIST PRIZES
The First, Second and Third Place winners in the competition will receive the WVI Endovascular Research Award and have their manuscripts published in the Vascular

RECOGNITION

The 3 best abstracts in each category will be selected for presentation during the WVI Training Forum on Friday, May 30, 2008

Each of the 3 finalists in the competition will receive:

    * Award Plaque
    * Free wvisymposium registration

To confirm the finalist position, each finalist will be required to:

• Submit a completed manuscript by March 28, 2008, for consideration by the awards committee. This manuscript will be judged by the awards committee and will subsequently be submitted to Vascular for publication.

• Sign a conflict/copyright transfer document required for publication of the manuscript in the Vascular.
 
The Awards Committee will select the winners based on the quality of the completed manuscript and the quality of the presentation

The winners of the competition will receive their awards at the wvisymposium and Luncheon on Friday, May 30, 2008.
